REVIEW
Halloween 2 marked a comeback for both John Carpenter and Debra Hill who wrote and directed the first Halloween movie. Halloween 2 was made with a bigger budget and wasnt as rushed as its prequel but overall lost a little of the terror and suspense that Halloween produced although was as equally disturbing. However this didnt let the film down, as its a very worthy sequel to the original and answered all the questions that the first left us pondering. The ending is also quite literally explosive and totally unmissable. Halloween 2 continues with the events of the first film, its October 31st and Myers seemingly survived six shots from Loomis and has vanished. Meanwhile Laurie Strode has been rushed to a local hospital but Michael is very much alive and is one step behind Laurie. The result is a tense film set mostly in the hospital as one by one Michael disposes of the staff and anybody else that gets in his way or tries to stop him in his hunt for Laurie. Halloween 2 still has the style and class of the original but the theme music was a let down. The same basic tune is used in the film but its now an organ rendition and feels a little flat. This caused it to lose a lot of the spookiness that Halloween produced. This bad point aside the film still has the class and style that Halloween produced and delivers edge of your seat moments all the way through. The acting is once again brilliant with solid performances from Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis. As a Halloween fan I couldn't have asked for better than Mr Dick Warlock who fills Mr Nick Castle's shoes as Michael Myers and gives us an equally as scary and disturbing presentation as The Shape! The directing of the movie is different to the original although some classics are brought back such as the shape appearing from the darkness in an eerie glow. I also loved that they showed surroundings from Michaels point of view much like in Halloween where we see through Michaels eyes as a six year old boy. Overall a brilliant sequel to the original which used the same direction ideas to great effect. It also answers all the questions that remained unanswered previously. Near perfection for a sequel (which isnt usually the case as most sequels are of poor quality) with a truly suspenseful climax although lost the touch of class that the original produced. 8/10
